The Commissariat Store on Maria Island off the east coast of Tasmania. It is a lovely little island. Once a convict settlement, it was explored by the French and first discovered and named by Abel Tasman in 1642. Later it became a penal settlement and many signs of that history remain. Including the Commissariat Store you see here. It is an amazing place to visit not just for the views and history but for the animals and birds that are real owners of the island and who are very tolerant of humans who visit the island. Would you like to see some more of the island?
